What to Know About the Woolsey Fire: Evacuations, Road Closures


The Woolsey fire in Ventura and Los Angeles counties has forced evacuations as it threatens tens of thousands of homes in the area.

  • Homes Threatened: 30,000
  • Evacuations: 45,000 people in Ventura County and 43,000 more in Los Angeles County were ordered to evacuate overnight

  • West of Highway 23 – south of E. Olsen Road, north of Pederson Rd.
  • South of Bard Lake, east of Highway 23
  • South of Highway 101, east of Reino Rd., north of Potrero Rd., east to the L.A./Ventura County line

Animal Evacuations

Sheltering is available at Pierce College Equestrian Center and the Anisafe trailer, but both were at capacity. Large animal sheltering was opened at Hansen Dam and Ventura County Fairgrounds.

Road Closures

 

  • Northbound PCH closed at Topanga Canyon, southbound shut down at Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu
  • The fire jumped Highway 101 early Friday at Chesebro Road in the Agoura Hills area.
  • Borchard at Los Vientos Dr.
  • Lynn Rd. at Reino Rd.
  • Potrero Rd. is closed between Rancho Dos Vientos and S. Lewis Rd.
  • South and East Kanan Rd.
  • Westlake Blvd at Kanan Rd.
  • Marview Dr. at Erbes Rd.
  • Hwy 101 is closed between Las Virgenes Cyn. to Reyes Adobe Rd.
  • Hwy 101 southbound is closed between Wendy and Westlake Blvd./County Line
  • Hwy 118 eastbound is OPEN
  • Hwy 101 northbound is OPEN West of Thousand Oaks

 

School Closures 

Pepperdine University

The University has activated shelter-in-place protocols for the Malibu campus. All individuals on campus should relocate to Tyler Campus Center or Firestone Fieldhouse.

  • All other campuses (Irvine, Encino, and West Los Angeles) remain open.
  • Faculty and staff who work at the Malibu and Calabasas campuses should not report to work unless they are critical support personnel.
