Brush Fire Evacuations Lifted for Burbank

At approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday, all evacuations for the Burbank fire were lifted according to the Burbank Police Department.

Earlier in the day, a three-alarm brush fire broke out in the Verdugo Mountains above Burbank, triggering the mandatory evacuation of 40 homes perched above the east end of the San Fernando Valley.

Residents living along Country Club Drive above Sunset Canyon were ordered out, Burbank police said. Officers went door to door, and implored residents to follow directions given for their own safety.

Police also asked people in the Wildwood Canyon and Stough Nature Center areas to leave immediately.

The fire started around 1 p.m. on Wildwood Canyon Road, and as of 4:30 p.m. had spread to at least 45 acres on the steep mountainside.

Firefighters from the city of Los Angeles sent a water-dropping helicopter and 50 firefighters to the blaze, joining coordinated crews from Burbank and Glendale.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department sent seven engines, three water-dropping helicopters, one bulldozer, three superintendents and two battalion chiefs, according to a dispatcher.

An automated weather gauge near the fire reported the temperature was 104 degrees at 3:30 p.m., and wind out of the east was 12 miles per hour.

The plume of smoke, rising nearly straight up, was visible across the San Fernando Valley.
