A crowd took over an intersection in Long Beach for a street takeover and looted a nearby market early Monday.
Video from the scene showed a large group of people at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Harding Street.
Some people from that crowd went into J and G Market, leaving a huge mess behind. Employees from the store were cleaning up Monday morning as glass, broken displays and snacks were everywhere.
A red car was seen doing donuts and getting dangerously close to the crowd and it appears someone even set off a firework. The crowd took off running when they heard police sirens.
The crowd then broke their way into the market wearing hoody jackets and some seeming to wear masks to cover their face.
Two women in the area tell NBC4 that these street take overs have been happening at this intersection nearly every weekend for the past five to six months.
But, they say this is the first time the crowd has looted the store. Marty Johnson who lives nearby says the crowd has “so many people sometimes the police can’t even get through. They block all the traffic.”
“This is our neighborhood. When they do the riots and all that, we still have to live here. These young kids are very different than when we grew up. They don’t care, they have no manners, no respect. The officers need to do better,” Christy Myles, a witness, said.
