Two Injured in Shooting At Redondo Beach Pier; Suspect Shot, Killed by Police

A suspect was declared dead at the scene after an “officer-involved shooting” Wednesday night, following a shooting at the Redondo Beach Pier in which two people were injured.

An emergency alert was released at about 9:25 p.m. advising the public to avoid the pier due to a Redondo Beach Police Department investigation into the shooting.

Officers responding to the shooting found two people injured at the scene, one adult and one child, each with gunshot wounds to their lower torsos, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. They were transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries, and are in stable condition.

Reports from the scene showed pedestrians being evacuated from the pier, and occupants of restaurants and businesses in the area were advised to shelter in place as police investigated.

Officers searched the area and found the suspect armed with a handgun and a knife, according to a statement from the LASD. Police shot the man while attempting to detain him, and the suspect was struck in the upper torso. He was declared dead at the scene.

No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident, the LASD said. The investigation is still ongoing.
