Small earthquake shakes near Gilroy, USGS says

A preliminary 2.5 magnitude earthquake struck early Thursday morning near Gilroy, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake hit at 3:29 a.m. and was centered about 5 miles west of Gilroy, the USGS said.

No other information was immediately available.
