Preliminary 3.0 magnitude earthquake strikes south of Gilroy

A preliminary 3.0 magnitude earthquake struck south of Gilroy Friday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake hit at 7:14 a.m. and was centered 2.5 miles west of San Juan Bautista, 6.7 miles northeast of Prunedale and 10 miles west of Hollister, the USGS said.

No other information was immediately available.
