One Dead, A Dozen Others Injured After Vehicle Crashes into Pomona Taco Stand

At least one person was reported dead, and 12 others injured after a vehicle crashed into a taco stand in Pomona Friday night, the Pomona Police Department said.

The collision occurred at approximately 7:43 p.m. near West Holt Avenue and Dudley Street, near Kiwanis Park, according to the Pomona Police Department.

Pomona police say the driver, identified only as a 26-year-old woman from Pomona, initially fled the scene but then returned an hour later to turn herself in.

Witnesses said the taco stand vendors are well liked and they are there every Thursday night through the weekend.

“We would always be here every weekend –  they’re really nice respectful people. It’s heartbreaking to hear what happened to them – prayers out to their family,” Tania Zamora, a neighbor, said.

They had just finished setting up for the night when the woman slammed into their stand.

Police say they are not sure if she was intoxicated, how fast she was going or the circumstances of the crash.

When police arrived to the scene, they found 13 people injured, including the man who was killed.

“When I see everything happening, I was like, I got in shock. I seen the dead body — I hope there’s not more dead bodies because they got to go home to their families we all got families to go home to,” Efren Navarro, a witness, said.
