‘No Kings' protests: Rallies and marches draw thousands across Bay Area

“No Kings” protests took place in the Bay Area as part of a nationwide rally against President Donald Trump’s administration.

The demonstrations happened in hundreds of cities on Saturday during a military parade in Washington to mark the Army’s 250th anniversary, which coincides with Trump’s birthday.

The “No Kings” protests counter what organizers say are Trump’s plans to feed his ego on his 79th birthday and Flag Day. The weekend rallies follow several days of nationwide protests against federal immigration raids, including in Los Angeles, where Trump’s deployment of the National Guard further agitated his opponents.

Here’s the latest updates on “No Kings” rallies in the Bay Area:

2:15 p.m.: Hundreds gathered at the steps of Oakland City Hall as part of a “No Kings Day” demonstration.

2 p.m.: More than 7,000 people showed up to form a 7-mile human chain stretching from Sunnyvale to Palo Alto along El Camino Real.

12:55 p.m.: Protestors in Mill Valley waved the American flag and held signs reading “Stop Genocide,” “Resist,” “Defend the Constitution,” among others.

Thousands gather in San Francisco for “No Kings” protest

Thousands flocked to San Francisco’s Dolores Park on Saturday and raised their voices against President Donald Trump and what critics call an authoritarian regime.

Marchers made their way to Civic Center Plaza as they wore crowns, t-shirts and blasted the president with signage. Most who gathered has the same message: They want a president, not a king.

“We’re citizens who really care, we care about what’s happening to our city and to our people, that’s why we’re here,” said Carrie, one of the protesters.

Many referenced what happened to Sen Alex Padilla earlier in the week, where he was forcibly removed from a press conference held by United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. Some said they joined the demonstration due to the immigration protests held in Los Angeles.

Last weekend, President Trump deployed the National Guard and then the Marines against protesters in Los Angeles demonstrating against his aggressive push for mass deportations.

San Jose demonstrators voice disdain about Trump Administration’s immigration policy

Many demonstrators in San Jose brought friends and family with them and said they will not stay quiet in light of immigration raids.

Protestors marched the streets of downtown while holding signs and flags.

“We’re just feeling disgusted by the treatment of immigrants and by all of the vicious policies from the Trump Administration,” said Katie, one of the protestors.

Katie came to Saturday’s demonstration with family and friends, including her daughter.

Before the march began, organizers asked people to keep the protest peaceful.

San Jose police were blocking off a few streets, allowing people to march through the area.

“I’ve never felt more strongly that democracy can happen and we can make a change,” said Jay Bailey, of San Jose.

Demonstrators form 7-mile human chain along Peninsula for “No Kings” protest

A seven-mile human chain stretching along El Camino Real from Sunnyvale to Palo Alto was formed as part of “No Kings Day” protests on the Peninsula.

The chain started at the Tesla showroom in Palo Alto and ended at the showroom in Sunnyvale. It served as a mock tribute to Elon Musk and his government involvement, protesters said.

“It’s time. It’s past time. It’s just been one crazy thing after another, and this is the right time and place, and the community feeling has been great,” said Andy of Mountain View. “Now we’ll see if anybody listens.”

Demonstrators said they were excited and a little blown away that the ambitious protest actually happened.

“We are ecstatic. People really resonated with this idea,” said Idarose Sylvester, a founder of Together We Will. “We are absolutely thrilled so many people came out in support of democracy, in support of America, in support of our flag, and support of our freedoms.”

Organizers said well over 10,000 people showed up to form the chain.
