Reliable child care in Silicon Valley has been tough to find over the past few years, but a new network for in-home services is helping.
Upwards Boost is a network created by a mom who was in the same boat as a lot of parents struggling to find child care services as they were returning to the office.
The network consists of a set of tools that providers can use to invoice, communicate with parents, hire teachers’ aides and provide free resources with parents to connect with more efficient in-home daycare providers.
Expanding child care couldn’t come at a better time… Santa Clara County lost about 300 day care facilities since the pandemic.
The city of San Jose just wrapped its first year of partnering with Upwards Boost with a $1 million investment.
Upwards Boost serves 131 in-home child care providers, saving them up to 20 hours a week of administrative work, helping them to create 42 new jobs and increasing their revenue by up to 45%.
The service has created more than 220 new child care slots in a region where families need them.
“These are not even small businesses, they’re micro, they’re in-home day cares, and we really help them to optimize their business, bringing in more revenue, but as well helping more families so they can get back to the workforce with peace of mind,” Upwards Boost Program Director Judy Ahumada said.
Santa Clara County and the cities of Mountain View and Sunnyvale are now launching the network in their communities.
