LA County Supervisor to propose legal action against ICE raids

An LA County supervisor says she wants to hold the federal government accountable for the ongoing immigration raids.

Supervisor Hilda Solis is proposing legal action for what she believes are unjust detentions and arrests.

Both motions are aimed at protecting people’s rights, rights that Solis says are being violated.

This comes after a viral video of a recent detainment where a man in Valinda was pushed to the ground, his head bleeding, before being taken away by federal agents.

Solis says the first motion she’s introducing would pursue legal action against what she says are unlawful immigration enforcement practices, in the County of LA, including excessive use of force.

Additionally, stops, questioning, detentions and arrests without reasonable suspicion or probable cause.

“These things shouldn’t be happening. That undue use of force is not called for,” Solis said. “I really do believe we need to call that out. And these individuals that are saying that they are law enforcement officers whether it’s ICE or Department of Homeland Security, or whatever, they should be sharing proper documentation.”

The other motion is geared toward youth, especially those participating in protests. It would launch a countywide initiative to equip and empower youth through “Know Your Rights” education such as knowing what is legal at a protest and what isn’t.

Solis is scheduled to introduce these proposals Tuesday morning.
