All northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway in Burbank were shut down Saturday night for a shooting investigation involving a police canine, according to the Burbank Police Department.
Officers with the Burbank Police Department were conducting a traffic stop on the 2400 block of Buena Vista Street at around 6:40 p.m. near the northbound 5 Freeway on ramp when they say a passenger from the car ran up the ramp, jumped over the freeway embankment and into a residential neighborhood.
Officers believed the man to be armed and stayed with the driver while they requested assistance.
More police resources arrived and initiated a search for the passenger with the help of a canine and helicopter.
The police canine spotted the suspect, who fired multiple shots at the canine. The suspect then fled the scene, police said.
Police transported the canine for treatment and remained on scene conducting a search for the suspect.
