High school in El Sereno placed on lockdown after shots fired in the area

Police were investigating a shooting Thursday that prompted officials to place an El Sereno high school on lockdown momentarily.

The shooting was reported around 3:37 p.m. in the parking lot of Woodrow Wilson High School, the LAPD said.

Officers said they were searching for two male suspects after finding bullet casings at the location.

One of the suspects is believed to have fled in a truck and the other on foot, according to police.

No one was injured in the shooting.

Parents were allowed to pick up students after the lockdown was lifted. Access through the front of the school on Multnomah Street remained closed to the public as the investigation continued, LAUSD PD said.

“Good afternoon. This is the school principal with an important message for parents and guardians. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remain my top priority. I am calling to advise you that our campus is on lockdown because of law-enforcement activity in the area. The law enforcement activity is not related to immigration enforcement,” said an LAUSD spokesperson in a statement to NBC4. “We are following district protocols. Our school will also provide resources for students who may need additional mental health support because of this incident. Please contact us at [direct phone number for on-campus school mental health resources] to learn more about how we may support your child.  We will provide you with updates as they become available. Thank you.”
