A brush fire scorched an estimated 800 acres in Santa Clarita and jumped the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway near Soledad Canyon Road, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported Sunday.
The 14 Freeway was closed in both directions, with northbound lanes closed at Soledad Canyon Road and southbound lanes closed at Agua Dulce Road, according to Caltrans District 7. The public was advised to use the 5 Freeway and the 138 Freeway as an alternate between the Antelope Valley and the San Fernando Valley.
Drivers heading south on the 14 Freeway said they had been stranded for hours.
The brush fire had a potential for 1,000 acres and a 3rd Alarm assignment had been requested, the LA County Fire Department said.
The fire was 0% contained as of 6:45 p.m. and approximately 300 personnel were on the scene battles the fire, according to the LA County Fire Department.
Evacuations were in place for the so-called Soledad Fire from Agua Dulce Canyon Road to Briggs Road and from Soledad Canyon Road to the 14 Freeway, according to the department. The Red Cross had established a temporary evacuation site at Victory Outreach parking lot located at 37419 25th Street East in Palmdale, with residents being asked to remain in their vehicles at the site.
