Crews battle house fire in San Jose

Crews with the San Jose Fire Department battled a house fire Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened after 3 p.m. on the 700 block of Daniel Way.

Residents told NBC Bay Area Saturday that they saw flames shooting out of the garage and also heard several booms.

According to SJFD, the fire involved various propane tanks but no injuries were reported.

Wanda Holland, who lives across the street from the home, said that she was worried the fire might spread to her home.

“It was flames going everywhere,” she said. “So, I was trying to get some other people that came on the sidewalk and I was to trying to direct them to not go because we didn’t know if the house was going to explode or not.

Officials said there were a lot of chemicals in the garage related to the installation of a carpet. Because of the chemicals, nearby residents were told to shelter in place by staying in their homes and closing their doors and windows.

PG&E crews were also in the area, securing the utilities.

About 50 firefighters responded to the incident and they were mopping up after they knocked out the fire.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

No other details were released.
