4 deputies hurt, suspect dead in police shooting in Santa Rosa

Sonoma County sheriff deputies shot and killed an armed suspect Monday morning in Santa Rosa in an incident in which four deputies were injured, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies responded to a neighborhood in unincorporated west Santa Rosa on a report of a person brandishing a rifle, officials said. When they arrived, deputies found the suspect, who then led them on a vehicle chase.

During the chase, the suspect stopped his vehicle and fired shots at the deputies, who then returned fire. The suspect ultimately crashed, sheriff’s officials said.

Four deputies were injured, one who was shot in the leg, two with injuries to their hands, and one with a head injury, officials said. The deputy with a head injury is in critical but stable condition.

The suspect died at the scene, sheriff’s officials said.

The Santa Rosa Police Department was handling the investigation of the officer-involved shooting.
