A driver was arrested after driving into a Kohl’s store in Huntington Beach and injuring three people Friday night.
All three victims were taken to a hospital, two in serious condition, following the crash around 8 p.m. at 7777 Edinger Avenue, Huntington Beach police spokeswoman Jessica Cuchilla said.
Chris Ring said one of the victims is his friend, who was part of a singing quartet in front of the store. Near the end of the set, the driver accelerated into the group, hitting Ring’s friend and driving some 50 feet into the store with the friend on the hood, Ring said.
The driver backed out and took off in his red pickup truck, prompting a police chase. Police later spun out the truck, and the man was arrested 1600 Beach Boulevard, Cuchilla said.
It was not immediately clear what caused the driver to crash into the store, though police believe he was under the influence of a substance of some kind.
