2 dead in crash on Bay Bridge; major collison on I-880

Two people died and two were injured after a crash Thursday morning on the Bay Bridge, and another major collision snarled traffic on Interstate 880 in Hayward, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash on the Bay Bridge snarled traffic heading out of San Francisco on eastbound I-80. The CHP confirmed two people died in the crash.

At about 4:15 a.m., CHP officers learned that a Toyota Tacoma struck a Mini Cooper on the highway’s eastbound lanes west of Treasure Island, CHP Public Information Officer Mark Andrews said.

Emergency crews found two of the three occupants of the Mini were killed in the crash. The third occupant of the Mini and the driver of the Toyota Tacoma suffered major injuries and were taken to hospitals.

Meanwhile, a multi-vehicle crash on southbound I-880 in Hayward clogged commute traffic in the East Bay. It was unclear if there were any injuries in that wreck.

Both crashes prompted Sig-alerts form the CHP.
