2.8 magnitude earthquake shakes near Stanford

A preliminary 2.8 magnitude earthquake struck early Tuesday morning near Stanford University, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake, centered about 7 miles southwest of Stanford, hit at 1:04 a.m., the USGS said.
