Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department deputies were chasing a carjacking suspect Friday in a pursuit that began in Compton.
Compton station deputies responded to a reported carjacking around 6:20 p.m. at the 100 block of East Compton Boulevard.
Family and kids were able to get out of the vehicle safely before it was stolen, according to LASD.
The suspected driver of the stolen white SUV led the multi-county pursuit for nearly an hour, reaching speeds of over 100 mph.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) took over the chase as it made its way into Orange County on the southbound 405 Freeway.
The carjacking suspect took an exit on Avenida de la Carlota after driving for miles with a flat front tire.
CHP officers executed two PIT maneuvers that ultimately disabled the vehicle on surface streets. The driver surrendered and was arrested near El Toro Road in Laguna Hills.
