The man accused of murdering a man and two women in South San Jose has a long criminal record.
Police said the 27-year-old suspect, Joseph Vicencio, was taken into custody on Wednesday, a day after officers responded to the triple homicide outside a condominium on Chynoweth Avenue.
The coroner has identified two of the victims as 26-year-old Tarah Lynn Taylor and Max Ryan, a San Jose city employee. The third victim has not been identified.
NBC Bay Area on Thursday pulled Vicencio’s criminal file and showed it to attorney Steven Clark.
The criminal file includes a gun violence restraining order filed by San Jose police in October 2019.
“His own father in the gun violence restraining order saying that he has a fascination with firearms and a mental health history — that’s a ticking time bomb,” Clark said.
Police filed the restraining order after Vicencio was identified as the suspect in a shooting inside the MLK Library in San Jose the month before. No one was hurt in the shooting and 11 rounds were fired.
“These are very troubling allegations,” Clark said.
There are no records in Vicencio’s public file of any conviction or dismissal of charges.
Clark said that usually means there was a conviction and expungement.
Records also show Vicencio was accused of threatening employees at a group home in 2017.
In 2019, Vicencio was arrested for having a gun on his waistband at another group home. That same year Vicencio was put on a 72-hour psych hold after allegedly saying he wanted to kill himself.
Police on Thursday declined to talk about the murders and have not revealed a motive. Authorities also are not saying how Vicencio allegedly knew the victims.
Vicencio is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
