A suspect was taken into custody following a shooting investigation that prompted a shelter-in-place order in San Mateo on Thursday evening, police said.
Just before 5 p.m., San Mateo police said they received reports of a shooting in the area of Hillsdale Boulevard and Norfolk Street. They said that a suspect likely fled into an apartment in the area. This promoted authorities to put a shelter-in-place order in the neighborhood.
San Mateo police said that the shooting victim was later located in San Carlos. Police initially told NBC Bay Area there were two victims. The victim was taken to a local trauma center for care.
Police added that officers were able to locate the apartment the suspect had fled to and was able to negotiate a surrender. The suspect was taken into custody.
The shelter-in-place order was lifted but San Mateo police said their officers will remain on scene as they continue to investigate.
No other information was immediately available.
