More than 100 people are dead after the catastrophic flooding in Texas and even more are believed to be missing. Now, LA County Fire Department K9 teams will head to Texas to help.
Those crews were headed to Texas Tuesday morning where it will be their job to help look for those who died in the flooding but still have not been found.
This LA County team is one of the many being sent to Texas by the state of California.
Once they land, they’ll work with the Texas Department of Emergency Management and will be given their assignments.
The governor has deployed firefighters from the city of Riverside, a FEMA incident support team member from Oakland and four human remains detection teams including eight canines.
Those are coming from LA County and Riverside County, and the fire departments in Menlo Park and Orange County.
“The dog will give an alert and the canine handler will notify the resources that are working together in that situation. and hopefully recover someone’s missing family member,” Brian Marshall, Cal OES Fire and Rescue Chief, said.
The LA County fire K9 teams will be deployed to Texas for 14 days.
