Community members held a candlelight vigil Sunday evening, calling for justice for Emmanuel Haro, a 7-month-old boy reported missing from the Yucaipa area last week.
Emmanuel was allegedly kidnapped Thursday night, according to his mother, Rebecca Haro, who told authorities she was attacked outside the Big 5 Sporting Goods store on the 34000 block of Yucaipa Boulevard when it was almost 8 p.m. Sunday’s vigil was at the location in a shopping center.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to NBC4 that detectives were at the Haro family home on Sunday as part of their ongoing investigation.
Rebecca Haro said the incident occurred as she was preparing to change her son’s diaper.
“I took him out of the car seat and laid him on the chair. I had his diapers here, and someone said, ‘Hola.’ I couldn’t turn, and I don’t remember nothing. I got up from the floor and didn’t see my child. Someone took him from me,” she told reporters.
Haro also has a 2-year-old child, who has since been taken into custody by Riverside County Child Protective Services, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
According to SBSD, Haro was “confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview.”
She, along with Emmanuel’s father, Jake, were interviewed by law enforcement as part of the investigation.
Emmanuel weighs approximately 21 pounds and stands 24 inches tall. He has brown hair and eyes and was last seen wearing a Nike onesie.
A description of the attacker was not available.
