Authorities in Greece are investigating the fatal shooting of a UC Berkeley professor.
On July 4, Przemyslaw Jeziorski, who taught at the Haas School of Business, was shot five times at point-blank range while on his way to visit his two children in Athens, according to reports.
The reports indicated Jeziorski, 43, was killed the day of his custody hearing.
UC Berkeley posted an extensive obituary on its website and earlier indicated it is cooperating with authorities in trying to learn who killed him.
Greek authorities have not revealed any details about a possible motive in the killing.
Friends, family, colleagues and students are mourning Jeziorski’s death, who was affectionately known as “PJ.”
“He is an incredibly good person. He didn’t deserve this and this is very, very senseless,” friend Chemtai Mungo said. “Our hearts are broken. His family’s heart is broken. It is very hard to come to terms with this reality.”
In a statement, the victim’s brother said his family is looking for justice: “Przemyslaw loves his children and fought for them until the end. His death and the circumstances surrounding it are impossible for us to accept.”
A crowdfunding page has been set up to help with legal expenses and transporting his body back to Poland. The family will have to work with lawyers from three different countries as they seek justice.
“Justice is finding who is responsible and holding them accountable, and justice is finding the best way forward in supporting his children,” Mungo said.
