Port of LA experiences drop in cargo volume in September

There’s a furry thief on the loose in Connecticut.

West Hartford Animal Control said an injured bear has been taking pumpkins from homes in town.

“Although we all want to assist the bear in recovering from its injury, unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done,” animal control said.

The bear may appear to be struggling to move or care for itself, but animal control said that isn’t the case.

Authorities said they observed the bear on Wednesday and saw it running despite its injured paw.

“Bears are remarkably resilient and adaptable, capable of overcoming numerous challenges, including physical injuries. The bear has demonstrated a strong will to persevere,” animal control said.

The bear’s habit of swiping pumpkins has caught the eye of local residents, though officials stress that such behavior is typical, as bears instinctively seek out food—particularly in the lead-up to winter.

West Hartford Animal Control is working with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and they’ll provide updates as they’re made available.

Anyone who encounters the bear is asked to report it here. All submissions will be sent to DEEP officials.
