Palm Springs police seek public's help in identifying dog theft suspects

Palm Springs police sought the public’s help in identifying two people suspected of stealing a pair of dogs near a residence.

The theft was reported about 10:30 a.m. Friday in the 700 block of San Lorenzo Road, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

Police say camera footage captured a man between 30 to 40 years old wearing a white T-shirt inscribed with the words “I need coffee,” black shorts, a black cap, white shoes and carrying a purple backpack. He was also described as having tattoos on his right leg, possibly of an eagle design, and a right arm sleeve.

The second suspect was described as a white woman in her 30s with brown hair, wearing a leopard-print dress, brown boots and carrying a black purse.

The suspects allegedly picked up the dogs, who had wandered away from the home after a door was left open, and left the area quickly, police said.

The animals, Maggie and Winnie, were each valued at about $2,500 and are microchipped. Police did not provide the breed type or other description of the canines.

Posting on social media, police said the suspects are accused under Penal Code 485 — appropriation of lost property, “including pets, without trying to find the rightful owner can be considered theft.”

Anyone with additional information was asked to contact Officer Guzman at animal.control@palmspringsca.gov or call 760-323-8151.
