One person was killed Wednesday when a Toyota Prius rear-ended a big rig and became pinned underneath the trailer on the 210 Freeway in the Sunland neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The crash was reported at 2:13 a.m. on the right shoulder of the westbound San Fernando Freeway just east of Sunland/Foothill Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
One person was confirmed dead inside the gray Prius, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.
The big rig’s trailer was fully loaded with produce, the CHP said. And part of the cleanup operation, according to CHP, is that absorbent was needed to remove spilled oil from the freeway’s right shoulder.
Traffic was stopped at Lowell Avenue until the CHP issued a SigAlert at 3:16 a.m. shutting down lanes 3 and 4 for the investigation and clean-up.
Lane 3 was reopened at 4:27 a.m. Lane 4 remained closed.
