
One person was critically wounded when Riverside police opened fire during a confrontation at a strip mall near the UC Riverside campus, authorities said Monday.
The shooting occurred at 11:59 p.m. Sunday at 3839 Chicago Ave., Riverside police said. Details about what led to the shooting were not immediately available.
The driver of a car was wounded. Police opened fire when the vehicle crashed into a patrol car and other cars parked at an Enterprise car rental agency.
Two officers suffered minor injuries. One was treated at a hospital and released and the other treated by paramedics at the scene, police said.
