No VTA bus or light rail service as workers go on strike

Monday marks day one of a South Bay transit strike that stands to disrupt the commutes of more than 100,000 VTA riders.

The strike officially started one minute after midnight. Some 1,600 VTA workers will be off the job for the foreseeable future.

After six months of negotiations, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 265 and VTA could not reach a deal on wages, benefit costs and conflict resolution process.

Each side said they submitted their best and final offer. No new talks are scheduled.

VTA’s paratransit service will not be impacted as those operators are part of a different union.
