Oakley Police said one man was hospitalized after a shooting Friday. Police also said that two neighbors had bullets go into their homes.
Police said they were called to a reported shooting at Macadamia Lane at around 10:30 in the morning on Friday. Officers reported finding a 40 year-old man with a gunshot wound the AMPM gas station at Main Street and Cypress Road. There was also a car found at that location with multiple bullet holes. That man was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.
Additionally, multiple bullet casings were found on the street on Macadamia Lane, a residential street less than half a mile from the AMPM station. On the other side of Macadamia Lane, residents at two different homes confirmed to NBC Bay Area that bullets flew from the street into their homes at around 10:30 in the morning. It is unclear who fired those gunshots.
One of those neighbors, who didn’t want to be identified, told NBC Bay Area she was sitting in her home on her couch when all of a sudden a shard of glass flew into her head cutting her. She soon realized that several bullets appeared to have flown over her fence, through her gazebo in her backyard, through her sliding glass doors, and into her family room wall. This woman was thankful to only have a minor cut.
Another neighbor, who also didn’t want to be identified, said a bullet went through his fence, through his trashcan, and somehow wound up lodged in his fireplace.
Multiple neighbors on and near Macadamia Lane reported hearing a series of gunfire, some even described the noise as similar to fireworks.
Police have not identified a suspect in this shooting yet and are looking into if or how the people involved know eachother.
Many neighbors said hearing about this shooting has them shaken up.
Omar Messina described how he was feeling after the shooting as “uneasy.”
“I’m going to sleep at night, thinking ‘Is it gonna happen again?’” he explained.
“Nothing ever happens here, its a quiet neighborhood,” he noted.
