Man dead after SUV found overturned near Hwy. 101 in Santa Rosa

A San Francisco deputy was “released from employment” after being accused of sexual assault at a county jail, the sheriff’s office said Thursday.

On Sept. 29, the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office said they were informed that a deputy allegedly engaged in a sexual misconduct with an incarcerated person at County Jail #2 in a facility bathroom.

According to the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office, that person was a transgender woman.

The sheriff’s office said a criminal investigation was opened in the case, and the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training was notified.

Officials report the deputy was “released from employment” as a result of the investigation.

In a statement sent to NBC Bay Area, the public defender’s office said, “This assault exposes the fact that people detained in jails and prisons are at profound risk of violence and abuse at the hands of law enforcement and that incarceration creates more harm and trauma, not less. We, at the SF Public Defender’s Office, are doing everything we can to connect this client with services and support. We ask for real safety, healing, and dignity for this client and everyone impacted by sexual abuse behind bars.”

The identity of the deputy has not been revealed. The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office said they are currently working with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office in the case.
