Detectives are investigating the death of a 7-year-old boy whose body was found in the freezer of a home in Lynwood, NBC4 Investigates has learned.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was called to an apartment on Euclid Avenue Tuesday night following a call for a welfare check on the child, authorities said. At the scene, deputies found the young boy’s body in the freezer.
As a result of the grim discovery, the boy’s mother, father and grandmother were detained, the sheriff’s department said.
Officials later arrested the boy’s mother, 25-year-old Destiny Harrison, on suspicion of murder. The boy’s father, 25-year-old Daniel Monzon, and his grandmother, 46-year-old Ana Zarceno-Carcamo, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.
Christian Torres, who was the family’s neighbor, said nothing seemed out of the ordinary with Harrison.
“You wouldn’t expect for that person to do something like that,” Torres said.
The cause of the child’s death has not been revealed. His name is being withheld.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn expressed her condolences.
“This is an unimaginable and horrific tragedy,” Hahn said in a statement. “I stand ready to support the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as they investigate this child’s death. My heart breaks for what the other children in this home must have experienced.”
Three other children in the household, whose ages are 9 months, 13 and 16, were placed into protective custody.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
