Electric scooter/bike company Lime has announced that Los Angeles will be one of the first cities in the world where it will offer its latest mobility option, a two-wheel sit-down alternative to the scooter that doesn’t require pedaling.
The LimeGlider was introduced last year in select cities as a pilot program, but Los Angeles will be one of the first locations to host its official introduction.
“Lime is proud to launch the Glider in Los Angeles, expanding reliable, inclusive, and sustainable transportation options for residents and visitors alike,” Hayden Harvey, Lime’s director of government relations, US West, said in a statement. “After introducing bikes to our fleet in April, we’re continuing to mindfully grow our program with more mobility options while maintaining our focus on rider safety and tidy streets. We’re proud to expand reliable, sustainable transportation in Los Angeles, which will play a vital role in moving Angelenos as we all gear up for major global events like the World Cup, Super Bowl, and the Olympics.”
Company officials said the Glider is designed “for riders who may have difficulty pedaling for extended periods, as well as those looking to replace car trips with a more comfortable, two-wheeled option.”
The Glider is a cross between the traditional stand-up scooter and pedal bike. The Glider is built lower to the ground than a traditional bike, but it has no pedals. Users can sit down on the two-wheeled vehicle and ride it like an electric-powered bike with their feet on foot rests instead of pedals.
Lime officials said the Glider has a larger padded seat than a traditional bike, as well as a larger basket in front.
“During our initial pilots last year, it was clear that the LimeGlider earned the love of our riders, with people returning to them frequently for local travel,” Lime President Joe Kraus said. “We’re so excited to take our next step with these vehicles and bring them to more cities this spring. The LimeGlider makes strides in offering a convenient and inclusive experience to a wider number of riders, while sacrificing nothing in the joy all Lime vehicles inspire.”
