Los Angeles police killed a suspect who shot and wounded an officer Tuesday about a mile north of USC after an hourslong barricade standoff.
Los Angeles Police Department officers, including a SWAT team, responded to the 100 block of West 21st Street, near South Main Street, about 12:15 p.m., after reports of shots fired, according to an LAPD spokesman.
The suspect opened fire on police about 4:45 p.m., striking a SWAT officer, who was able to walk to an awaiting ambulance to be taken to a hospital, NBC4 reported.
The officer was shot once in the chest — though the bullet was stopped by his vest — and once in the face, according to LAPD Chief Michel Moore.
