Guitar string maker honors tradition with his craft from Boyle Heights garage

A front yard in Watertown, Massachusetts, has turned into a spooky Bad Bunny-themed Halloween display — and the showing is getting a lot of attention locally and on social media.

It’s actually “Bad Boney” themed, technically. The yard is full of skeletons wearing some of the Puerto Rican icon’s famous outfits and accessories. One skeleton in particular is larger than life, and donning a pair of Calvin Kleins in reference to Bad Bunny’s shoot for the designer.

The display is the work of Kimmy Nguyen, who said she loves Halloween and pop music, and wanted to make the display to share her joy. She began the new tradition last year with Taylor Swift-themed decorations. This year’s showing has been in the works since April, she said.

“We put it up the night Bad Bunny was announced as the Super Bowl performer,” Nguyen said, explaining the timing of the announcement with her finishing touches. “It was perfect timing. And it really quelled all my doubts about whether or not I chose the right theme.”

Nguyen said she has enjoyed the process of creating the festive yard displays alongside her father. Last year, she said she got around 250 trick-or-treaters to her house because of all the decorations.

Some of the motivation, she explained, comes from the balloon business she started up as a side project called Weightless Innovations.

“I love celebrations and specifically balloons,” Nguyen said. “Growing up as a first-generation, low-income immigrant you don’t really get big birthday parties as a kid. So, now that I’m an adult, with adult money, I like to use that to celebrate others.”

Nguyen is hoping for plenty more trick-or-treaters this year, and wasn’t shy about the fact she plans to hand out full-sized candy bars.
