A fiery, fatal vehicle crash Friday shut down northbound Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz Mountains, according to the California Highway Patrol.
All northbound lanes of the highway initially were blocked by the crash and the ensuing response just north of Vine Hill Road, the CHP said.
One lane reopened just before 1 p.m., but the CHP advised drivers to expect major delays through the area.
Authorities asked motorists to avoid the area, and they did not have an estimated time for when the roadway would fully reopen.
