Fiery big rig crash on the 5 Freeway in Mission Hills causes traffic backup

Firefighters battled a stubborn outside debris fire Monday morning at a vehicle storage yard that extended to a pair of compressed natural gas fuel trucks in the Vermont Vista neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

Fire crews responded to the location on Vermont Avenue, north of the 105 Freeway, at a vehicle storage yard that threatened nearby storage trucks, said LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey.    

The fire closed all lanes of the westbound 105 Freeway for more than an hour.The fire took nearly two hours to extinguish with nearly 60 firefighters.

No injuries were reported.
