Evacuation orders issued as Point Fire in Sonoma County reaches 550 acres

The Point Fire northwest of Healdsburg in Sonoma County has ballooned up to 550 acres, Cal Fire said Sunday evening.

The fire was reported to be 200 acres at 5:30 p.m.

Winds out of the northwest and low relative humidity are “making for challenging conditions,” said Cal Fire on social media. “The fire is making a hard push off of Bradford Mountain to the south,” said the agency on X.

Structures continued to be threatened along West Dry Creek Road, north of Yoakim Bridge Road and especially on the northeast side of Bradford Mountain, according to Cal Fire.

Dubbed the Point Fire, the blaze was first reported on Skaggs Springs Road just before 1 p.m. and grew rapidly with the help of the wind, spurring evacuations in areas off West Dry Creek Road. The fire remained at 15% containment as of 7:40 p.m.

An evacuation order for the area was extended to include all residents in zone SON-2E2, in the Dry Creek Valley, the Sheriff’s Office said at 4:15 p.m. as the Point Fire spreads.

Evacuation orders are in effect for north and east of Chemise Road, south of Stewart’s Point-Skaggs Springs Road, and west of Dry Creek in that zone.

An evacuation warning remains in effect for zone SON-2E3, also in the Dry Creek Valley: north of Mill Creek Road, south of Chemise Road, east of Wallace Creek Road and west of Dry Creek in that zone.

Anyone who may need assistance evacuating large animals can call Sonoma CART hotline at (707) 861-0699 for assistance.

An air quality advisory has gone out due to wildfire smoke for Sonoma, Napa and Marin counties, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District said.
