Crews battle brush fire near Lawrence Livermore Lab, I-580 closed

Crews with the Alameda County Fire Department battled a brush fire Saturday afternoon.

The Corral Fire started near the Lawrence Livermore Lab site 300 and West Corral Hollow Road, southwest of Tracy.

As of Saturday evening, the fire has burned 5,100 acres and it’s 40% contained.

The blaze forced the closure of Interstate 580 in the area, according to Caltrans’ road conditions website. An evacuation order was also put in place in the area.

Video from an Alert Wildfire camera showed a large plume of smoke. Firefighters said it started as a control burn at about 2:40 p.m. but winds caused it to get out of control.

The Alameda County Fire Department said that two firefighters suffered minor to moderate burn injuries. They were been transported to local hospitals.
