San Jose police on Tuesday were searching for a suspect who shot and killed two women and a man at a home, according to the department.
Police received multiple calls just before 12:30 a.m. about gunshots being fired and a woman screaming for help along the 200 block of Chynoweth Avenue, the department said.
Responding officers found a woman outside a home suffering from at least one gunshot wound, police said. She was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, but she did not survive.
Officers also found a second woman and a man inside the home. Both were suffering from at least one gunshot wound, police said. The woman died at the scene. The man was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.
The unidentified suspect fled the scene before officers arrived and remained on the loose as of Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
“We do want to make it clear that this was an isolated incident, so there is no threat to public safety at this time,” police spokesperson Stacie Shih said. “Our homicide unit detectives are actively investigating. They’re diligently working around the clock to ensure that they identify, apprehend and arrest the suspect.”
These mark the 19th, 20th and 21st homicides in San Jose this year, police said.
The identities of the victims will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
It wasn’t immediately known if the suspect and the victims knew each other.
