2 dead, 2 injured in attack at a Montebello apartment complex

What began as a protest against immigration enforcement operations outside of the federal building in Los Angeles ended with the arrest of at least two people on Wednesday night.

According to police, a crowd made their way onto a federal employee parking lot and started vandalizing it.

A few protesters were still around the area Thursday morning and a military-like vehicle was still on property as Homeland Security officers walked out of the building.

According to a sergeant with the Los Angeles Police Department, the group of demonstrators that was present on Wednesday, about 60 people, have been out there about three weeks protesting recent immigration enforcement operations.

At around 9 p.m., LAPD officers established skirmish lines on Alameda between Aliso and Temple, outside the federal building.

The sergeant said some people got on federal property in an employee parking lot and vandalized part of the property.

Federal officers pushed the group off property, then police said the group started throwing water and beer bottles at officers.

Police said federal officers arrested one person for battery on a federal officer and the LAPD arrested someone else for interfering with the department’s work to disperse the crowd.

Things settled down at around 11 p.m. and activity in downtown LA appeared back to normal this morning.
