Generosity was on display Monday as neighbors helped neighbors during a holiday food box giveaway at Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose.
One thousand families received their food boxes, and another 1,000 will as well on Tuesday and Wednesday, all thanks to donors and volunteers who keep coming through.
“This is a big blessing, a very big blessing,” Rita Soriano of San Jose said. “We are very fortunate to have it. Very well organized as well.”
Families said if it wasn’t for Sacred Heart, Thanksgiving would have meant leftovers or just vegetables on the dinner table.
“It’s a blessing to come here, so I want to say thank you to all the people who make this donation because it makes a big difference for our family,” Maria Barajas of San Jose said.
Sacred Heart said the need this year is unprecedented.
“The line is huge today, and I think it’s a sign that folks in the valley are struggling to make ends meet,” Demone Carter of Sacred Heart said.
