Shooter, victim identified in murder-suicide inside Korean BBQ in La Habra

Police Wednesday revealed the identities of two people who died in an apparent murder-suicide incident inside a Korean barbeque restaurant in La Habra.

Calling it a “targeted attack,” police said Jonathan Wang, 35, went inside Gui Gui 9292 Korean BBQ on Imperial Highway at around 6:43 p.m. on Tuesday, and shot 45-year-old Jacqueline Medrano. After gunning down his ex-girlfriend, La Habra police said Wang tuned the gun on himself.

Medrano and Wang had been in a relationship previously, but detectives confirmed that a criminal protection order was issued against Wang, preventing him from contacting Medrano.

The restraining order was active at the time of Medrano’s killing and Wang’s suicide.

Police said there were no additional suspects linked to the case, and there’s no threat to the public.

No one else was injured.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information was asked to contact Detective N. Pineda at (562) 383-4353 or the on-duty Watch Commander.
