Santa Cruz remains vigilant of tsunami surges

A Delta Air Lines pilot accused of sexually abusing a child made his first court appearance Wednesday in Contra Costa County.

Rustom Bhagwagar, 34, of Florida was arrested Saturday by Homeland Security agents minutes after a Delta flight had just landed at San Francisco International Airport.

Prosecutors have charged Bhagwagar with 24 felony counts related to repeated sexual abuse of a child under 10 years old. A 45-year-old woman also is facing the same 24 counts in the case, but authorities have not yet explained her connection to the pilot.

Wednesday’s arraignment was continued until Aug. 19. Both defendants are being held on a $15 million bond.

A judge also ordered the two defendants have no contact with the victim or anyone connected to the victim.

If convicted, both suspects are facing 15 years to life in prison.
