San Jose school district announces new superintendent

The Alum Rock Union Elementary School District has named assistant superintendent Sandra Garcia as acting superintendent.

This after an announcement from the school board that superintendent German Cerda was fired in closed session without cause, without public explanation.

Questions and comments came quickly from a number of the people who attended a special board meeting Saturday in San Jose.

Some people expressed concerns about further disruption as students in a district that already faced school closures…others shared their thoughts as students prepare to head back to school soon.

In a statement late this afternoon, the school board president said Garcia in part: “her relationships and knowledge of the community we serve will give her and the district a positive advantage moving forward.”

Some people today, noted that this happening in a district still mired in a 9 million dollar budget deficit.
