Red Cross opens emergency shelters with storm evacuation orders in LA County

Three Red Cross emergency shelters in Los Angeles County were opened this weekend for people under evacuations orders as a powerful storm brings rain to Southern California.

The following shelters were opened Friday.

Meals, snacks, water, health services and overnight accommodations are offered at the locations, which will remain open as long as necessary. Trained Red Cross members are at the shelters.

The brunt of the storm is expected to bring moderate to heavy rain through midday Saturday, leading to evacuations orders for some residents in LA County’s recent burn scar areas, including the Palisades and Altadena. High rainfall rates are expected, which could lead to damaging and potentially deadly debris flows on burned hillsides.
