The pilot of a single-engine plane was killed Saturday when the aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Corona Municipal Airport.
The crash occurred just before noon at Auburndale and W. Rincon streets, according to the Corona Fire Department.
The crash touched off a vegetation fire, which Corona firefighters quickly knocked down, officials said.
Firefighters confirmed one person was dead at the scene.
Residents were urged to avoid the area as an investigation was underway.
