Officers arrested a pair accused of stealing more than $1,700 worth of jackets in Vallejo last week, the police department said.
Officers responded to a business in the 100 block of Plaza Drive at around 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 20 after two suspects were reported stealing multiple jackets and leaving the store, according to authorities.
Police said a witness in the parking lot told officers that the suspects drove away in a dark Dodge Charger. Authorities reported the witness also provided officers with a license plate number and a picture of the vehicle.
Later that afternoon, officers located the Dodge Charger traveling on Sonoma Boulevard near Florida Street, according to authorities. Police added the officers conducted a felony traffic stop on the 200 block of Marin Street and detained the two people inside the car.
Officers found 12 jackets with the victimized store’s price tags still attached in the back seat and trunk, according to officials. Authorities said staff responded to the scene to confirm those were the stolen jackets and identify the suspects. After that, the stolen merchandise was returned to the business, police said.
Authorities reported a records check revealed that the driver’s license was suspended and he had $45,000 worth of outstanding warrants for his arrest in Madera County and El Dorado County. He also had multiple felony convictions for burglary, fraud, grand theft and possession of stolen property, according to police.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, conspiracy, driving on a suspended license and for his outstanding warrants, according to authorities. The passenger, police said, was arrested on suspicion of grand theft and possession of stolen property.
The passenger had also admitted to the stealing merchandise after being advised of his Miranda rights, officials reported.
