Men caught stripping, cutting copper wire from streetlight near LAX

Two men with criminal histories were arrested on Sunday after they were caught cutting copper wire from a streetlight near Los Angeles International Airport, law enforcement said.

A passerby flagged down Los Angeles Airport Police to report a pair of men stripping and cutting copper wire from city-run streetlights, LAXPD said. Officers made their way to Vista Del Mar, where they said they spotted the men in action.

A severe amount of damage was done to the lightning systems, according to LA Airport Police. Both individuals, whose names have not been released, were taken into custody.

As the investigation continued, background checks showed that both men had convictions for property damage, theft and offenses involving inappropriate contact with a minor.

It’s unclear what charges the men may face in connection with Sunday’s case.
