A man was hospitalized in grave condition Wednesday after a stabbing on a Metro G Line bus in North Hollywood, authorities said.
Passengers called police at about 12:15 p.m. from near the intersection of Tujunga Avenue and Chandler Boulevard to report that someone on the bus was stabbed in the neck, LAPD sources told NBC4 Investigates. Details about what led to the attack on the rapid transit dedicated busway connecting Chatsworth and North Hollywood were not immediately available.
Witnesses said the attacker exited the bus after the stabbing and was immediately taken into custody.
In a statement, Metro said the passenger was stabbed by another passenger shortly after the bus left the North Hollywood station traveling west.
Cellphone video shot by a bystander who lives across street from the bus stop that runs parallel Chandler and intersects Tujunga showed the LAPD detaining a man.
A witness who was on the same bus said the altercation started with an argument between two men then escalated to one of the men pulling out a knife and stabbing the other man in the neck.
“I ended up taking off my Dodgers jersey, sopping the blood (that) kept pouring everywhere,” Virginia Salas said. “Everybody was getting scared, running out of the bus.”
The victim was identified as a 35-year-old man.
Anyone with information was asked to call the LA Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-222-TIPS or 800-222-8477.
